Born on September 8, 1941, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Rodger and Mildred Bowers, Susan grew up to become a devoted wife, loving mother, and the heart of her family. She dedicated her life to caring for her husband and raising their four boys, pouring her whole heart into making a home filled with love, warmth, and unwavering support. A hardworking and selfless woman, Susan always put her family first and found her greatest joy in caring for those she loved. Her devotion to the Lord was constant and she always quoted scripture and poured her love for Jesus to everyone she knew.
Raising four boys was no small undertaking, and Susan embraced every moment of it. Whether sitting on the sidelines of football and baseball fields, cheering from basketball courts, or attending the countless activities that filled her sons’ lives, she was always there. Susan never missed an event. Her presence was a constant, her encouragement unconditional, and her love unmistakable. That same enthusiasm for family continued through the generations, and one of her recent joys was attending her great-grandson’s elementary school play.
Susan loved her daily walks and had a lifelong interest in holistic health, always searching for the next best natural remedy to keep her family healthy and well. Looking after her loved ones was more than something she did; it was who she was. Her care, devotion, and determination to help her family thrive were defining parts of her life.
In her earlier years, Susan attended the University of Maryland, where she earned a degree in English and Journalism. It was while working for the American government that she met Tom, the love of her life. Together, they shared 60 wonderful years of love and companionship. While her greatest accomplishments were found in the family she nurtured and the lives she touched, her education reflected her own interests and talents.
Susan leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas Maloney, of Bonita Springs, Florida, and their four sons: Michael Maloney, and his children, Hannah and Timmy; Patrick Maloney and his wife, Laura; Ryan Maloney and his wife, Vanessa, and their children, Ethan and Skylar; and Matt Maloney and his wife, Katherine, and their children, Michael and his wife, Rochelle, and their children, Mason, Ryder, and Madeline; Trent; and Luke.
She is also survived by her sisters, Barbara Bowers of Raphine, Virginia, and Linda Fernow of Hagerstown, Maryland; and her brother, Mike Bowers of Blacksburg, Virginia. Preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Roschli, and brother, Steve Bowers.
Susan’s life was a testament to the quiet strength of a devoted wife and mother, the joy of being present for the people who matter most, and the enduring power of a mother’s love. She gave so much of herself to her family, and her love will remain woven into the lives of all who knew her.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
Funeral service will be held at New Hope Ministries, 7675 Davis Blvd, Naples, FL 34104 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 at 10am.
