Born on August 6, 1950, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ginger lived a life filled with humor, kindness, generosity and deep love for family.
Ginger was the daughter of Wilma Irene Boyd (née Lunsford) and William Alvah Boyd (deceased). She is survived by her brother, William Drew Boyd, sister-in-law Wendy Ann Boyd, her sister, Terri Lee Boyd and brother-in-law David Dean Hanson, and sister Suzanne Boyd Showers. She was a beloved aunt to William Ryan Boyd and Courtney McCallister Showers, and was preceded in death by her niece, Alexandra Britta Knoppel. Though Ginger had no children of her own, she loved her nieces, nephews, and their children as if they were her own, delighting in making every child feel welcomed, adored, and special.
Ginger attended the University of Pittsburgh and went on to enjoy an adventurous career in travel, working as a flight attendant for a private airline and a hotel manager for Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. She also gave generously of her time as a volunteer for Toys for Tots, a fitting reflection of her lifelong affection for children and her love of toys, old and new.
To know Ginger was to know laughter. She possessed the quickest wit in the family—dry, clever, and unexpectedly funny. Her sense of humor was legendary, often expressed through perfectly chosen greeting cards that mirrored her own delightful and lighthearted personality. She had a low-key, gentle nature, and possessed an extraordinary gift for making others feel seen and cherished simply by being herself.
Ginger embraced life with enthusiasm. She loved to draw and inspired others with her creativity. She loved cooking and spent three weeks studying culinary arts in Italy. She was a devoted fan of music, from her youthful love of the Beatles to her lifelong appreciation of Steely Dan. She was an avid reader of the news, a devoted follower of the weather, and could always be counted on to know the latest headlines or forecast. She loved shopping, cruising, and gardening. The mountains of Colorado held a special place in her heart, especially during her years living in Snowmass, Colorado, where she enjoyed skiing and the beauty of mountain life.
Family was the center of Ginger's world. To her mother, she was not only a daughter but a best friend. To her nephew Ryan, her house was "a home away from home," a place of smiles, hugs, and toys. To her niece Courtney, she was “forever young,” kind, loyal, fun and thoughtful. She was the one who bought the birthday cakes for family celebrations and helped create the moments that became treasured memories.
Ginger's legacy is one of quiet generosity, gentle humor, and unconditional love. She leaves behind countless, unforgettable memories of laughter, warmth, and kindness. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her.
