Valeta Marie Koppenhofer

Valeta Marie Koppenhofer, 97, of Defiance died on December 26, 2014 at Glennpark of Defiance. She was born on June 9, 1917 to the late Carl and Helen (Kruse) Huner in Defiance County. She married Melvin Koppenhofer on October 15, 1939 and he preceded her in death in October of 2000.

She was a wonderful mother, homemaker, gardener, seamstress, quilter and baker (coffeecakes, molasses cookies and date pinwheels).

Valeta worked at Foster Canning in Napoleon for several years during the tomato pack, and for the Henry County election board for many years.

Valeta and Melvin traveled throughout the United States. For many years after retirement they spent winters at Lake Havasu, Arizona. She was a member at Hope Lutheran Church, Hamler, and sewed with the women of the church at the Filling Home.

Surviving are the two daughters, Janice (Howard) Oringer of San Francisco CA. and Karen (Orville) Dickerson of Defiance, OH; five sons, Thomas (Jean) and Dennis (Cathy) of Defiance, OH; Daniel (Betty) of Antwerp, OH, Anthony (Lynesa Knick), Holgate, OH and Timothy, Fort Wayne IN; 16 Grandchildren, 16 Great-Grandchildren, 3 Step Great- Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildern. Also surviving is a sister Laura Meyer of Napoleon, OH and in-laws Eleanor Huner, Defiance OH, Virginia Huner, Napoleon OH, Dottie Koppenhofer, the Villages FL and Arthur (Loretta) Koppenhofer of Defiance, OH and many nieces and nephews.

Proceeding her in death was an infant son, 3 sisters: Christina Sonnenberg, Hildegard Huner and an infant sister, brothers Melvin and Eldor Huner and an infant Great-Great Granddaughter.

Final arrangements are entrusted to Snyder-Wesche Funeral Home (830 North Scott Street). Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Friday January 2, 2015 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at Hope Lutheran Church Hamler, Ohio on Saturday January 3, 2015 at 11:00 a. m. Pastor Hunsinger officiating. Internment is to follow at Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Filling Home of Napoleon Ohio, Heartland Hospice or Hope Lutheran Church of Hamler.
