Edith Constance Bennett (more affectionately known as “Ditty” or “Ditts”) was born in Good Hope, Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies in 1925. Pre-deceased by her 6 sisters and 3 brothers. She is the last of the Robinson children from Good Hope, Clarendon. She is also pre-deceased by her first husband Elverton Francis Bailey, and second husband Beresford Leyland Bennett. While living in Jamaica, she worked at Times Store and then Robinson and Company for many years in Kingston. In 1967, she migrated to the United States and settled in Brooklyn, New York. She then worked at American Aviation for several years, and later became a nurse to the elderly doing home health care. Ditty loved to cook and entertain; and was the “Hostess with the Mostest.”
Edith Constance Bennett is survived by her five children; Neville, Maxine, Judith, John, and Marie. As well as her six grandchildren, Neville-Shawn, Aisha, Kimberley, Nathan, NeShawn and Angelica. She also leaves behind, her sister-in-law Dorothy Girvan, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Edith Constance Bennett passed away May 16, 2018. The family will receive friends Thursday (May 31st) from 7-9 at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday 11a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Homestead, FL. Entombment will take place in New York.
