Ann Lindsay Getts (née Pettit), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and faithful servant, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025. She lived a life marked by compassion, commitment, and strength.
Born to Walton Speake Pettit and Angeline Marshall Pettit, Ann Lindsay grew up in Arlington, Virginia, where her deep roots in faith and service began. A lifelong learner and educator, she graduated from Washington Lee High School and then Westhampton College in 1955. Decades later, she continued her academic journey, earning a degree in Psychology from the University of New Mexico in 1976, followed by a Master’s in Special Education from the University of New Hampshire.
In 1955, she married Harland Ray Getts. Together they embraced the adventure of military life, spending 23 years in service to their country as a United States Air Force family. Ann Lindsay and Harland raised five children while moving between England, Okinawa, New Mexico, South Carolina, Alabama, Michigan, and New Hampshire. Through every transition, Ann Lindsay created a loving, stable home, nurturing not only her children but countless others through her roles as teacher, high school principal, superintendent and pastor’s wife.
A woman of unwavering faith, Ann Lindsay was active in every church community she joined. She supported missions and missionaries around the world, and her life testified to the power of dedication, prayer, and hospitality. She will be remembered for her strong will, and exacting and fearless personality. Her high standards for herself and others shaped who she was. She was mentally and physically strong, and a powerful presence in every room she was in.
Ann Lindsay is survived by her brother, five children, fifteen grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a part of her legacy. Her influence will continue in classrooms, churches, and family stories for generations to come.
Many of her grandchildren will remember her love for the Red Sox’s, pizza dates, and never forgetting a birthday. And as one of the few people in their 80’s and 90’s who mastered multiple social media channels in her commitment to stay connected to her family.
She will be deeply missed, joyfully remembered, and always honored.
Ann Lindsay will be interred at a family ceremony in Warrenton, VA. No local services will be held in NH.
