Barbara Ann Filion, 72, of Nashua, NH passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, surrounded by family and friends. Barbara was born June 27, 1941 in Medford, MA, the daughter of the late Howard K. and Audrey M. (Frazer) Oldmixon.
Barbara was a devoted mother, raising three children largely on her own. She was a friend to many and an irrepressible hostess. A favorite gathering place for family and friends, Barbara's home was always welcoming and homemade treats abundant. Summer time was an especially busy and enjoyable time at the Filion home, and Barbara’s camera was never far from her reach. Family summers in Barbara's younger days were spent at Baboosic Lake in Merrimack, NH and later at Highland Lake in Stoddard, NH. One of Barbara's cherished memories was her trip to China with her cousin Frank in 1986 where she walked the Great Wall of China.
Barbara is survived by her three children, Kenneth R. Filion of Milford and his significant other Karen Conde, Danielle J. Filion of Nashua, and Scott J. Filion and his wife Sarah of Cohasset, MA. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Shawn K. Filion and his wife Sarah of New Ipswich and Keith R. Filion of Milford, and by her sister, Anita M. Lank and husband Walt of Bluffton, SC. Barbara was predeceased by her longtime friend and beloved companion, George Flanders, in 2012. In addition, Barbara will be deeply missed by her surrogate "sons" whom she loved as her own, George E. Flanders and Michael R. Mader, and "grandson" Georgie Flanders, all of Nashua.
A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the family home in Nashua between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 pm. Friends and relatives are invited. A private burial will be held at Tewksbury Cemetery, Tewksbury, MA.
