Barbara Kohrs Phipps, 93, ascended to the next world in a “House of many mansions” peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on July 5, 2020. The Bob Phipps clan was established in 1959 – Jerri Ann, Nancy Lee, Jane Louise, and John David survived her. She faithfully followed a code of religious ethic where family unity was at the core. Her philosophy of life is a quote from Franklin D. Roosevelt. “Religion was for me 1) an anchor 2) a source of strength and 3) a source of guidance.” This ethic governed her activities such as spiritual journaling, photo scrapbooking, needle craft, and dancing (line, square, and ballroom). York Beach, Maine, was also a central point of her life. She started vacationing at the beach when her parents, Carsten A. Kohrs and Frances (Hicks) Kohrs, took the young girls every summer from their hometown, Torrington, Connecticut. Then Barbara and her now late sister, Ethel, practiced their home economic skills while waitressing at the Goldenrod Kisses. She very much enjoyed her Framingham Teachers College years with the best thirteen gals of her life. Because of a YB friend in an influential position in the Worcester, Massachusetts, public school system, she acquired a teacher’s job in that city. This is where she met Robert B. Phipps, both being life-long Congregationalists. Barbara introduced her favorite childhood paradise to her new young family. They in turn inaugurated the tradition to her grandchildren, Brendan Kendrick Wills (Nancy and Brian Wills) and Jenifer Nicole Broglin (Jerri and Ken Broglin). Oh, how the “beacon of light” carries on from generation to generation through the Nubble Lighthouse in York Beach, Maine! As well, her favorite hymn “God Be With You Till We Meet Again” beams out brightly through its beautiful harmonies. Barbara has faith that she will be meeting all her dear ones again – the family spiritual gathering.
