Daniel (Dan) was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 29, 1945, the son of Daniel F. and Eleanor G. (Hartman) Crean. Dan grew up in Milwaukee and after High School, he proudly attended Yale University in New Haven, CT where he received a bachelor’s degree in 1967. He then returned to Wisconsin and went to The University of Wisconsin Law School and earned his Juris Doctorate degree in 1970, specializing in Municipal Law.
Growing up, Dan worked in his parent’s grocery store. He loved working there by his father’s side and he had many fond memories of those days. He was also a huge fan of baseball and the Milwaukee Braves and Brewers in particular. He played hard-ball softball after college and for many years well into his 40’s. After law school, Dan worked for State of Wisconsin Legislative Reference Bureau as a staff attorney until he moved to NH in 1974 and began working for the State’s Office of Legislative Services as a staff attorney.
It was while working at Legislative Services that Dan met the love of his life and later married, Dianne Crean. They were happily married for over 43 years. Dan and Dianne lived first in Concord, then Laconia, then Canterbury and finally settled in Pembroke where they lived for over 20 years.
Dan’s and Dianne’s love of travel took them to many places over the years, their favorites being Ireland and Prince Edward Island, Canada. They also traveled to Scotland, Germany, England, and some other European countries.
Dan (and his family) was an avid football fan, watching faithfully his favorite teams, the Milwaukee Badgers and the Green Bay Packers. He even purchased one single stock in the Packers and loved telling people that he was an owner of the team! Family meant a lot to he and Dianne and in addition to his 3 stepchildren, he and Dianne were blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dan and Dianne especially enjoyed family get-togethers, and they hosted annual cookouts in the summer, birthday parties throughout the year and holiday get-togethers. Dan loved to cook and always made dinners and a variety of items for the many family potlucks they had over the years.
Dan was an avid fan of classical music and attended many symphony concerts with Dianne. For many years they were involved in running the Granite State Symphony located in Concord, NH.
Dan was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Eleanor, his wife, Dianne, his brother-in-law, Bill Nell, his stepson, Anthony DiBernardo and grandson Cameron Welch.
