

He was born in Boston, Ma. on April 23, 1930, the son of the late Frederick and Bridget (McDonnell) Lane.
Fred has been a Nashua resident since 1964. He graduated from Boston College High School, where he was the goalie for the ice hockey team. He also attended the University of Lowell. Fred served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as an air traffic controller at Logan International Airport and the FAA Center for more than twenty five years and then as a software engineer at the FAA Center until his retirement in 1997. Fred was a communicant of Infant Jesus Parish. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as a 4th degree Knight. He was an avid hockey player, referee and coach for many years.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years; Mary L. (Monahan) Lane; three daughters, Jeanmarie Dowd and her husband Daniel of Nashua, Maureen Lemieux and her husband Michael of Nashua, and Karen Elwood and her husband Quentin of Londonderry; one son, John Lane of Cotuit, MA; seven grandchildren, Caroline Dowd of Manchester, Michael Dowd, Kevin Lemieux, and Krystin Lemieux all of Nashua, Shaun Elwood and his wife Angela, Megan Elwood, and Patrick Elwood all of Londonderry; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours were held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 4 PM to 8 PM at ZIS-SWEENEY FUNERAL HOME, 26 KINSLEY STREET, NASHUA, NH 03060. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 10 AM at Blessed John XXII Parish, at Infant Jesus in Nashua. Burial followed at Edgewood Cemetery in Nashua. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred’s memory to the Jimmy Fund, 375 Longwood Ave, Boston, MA 02215.
