James N. Floras, 74, died unexpectedly at his home in Hollywood, FL, on March 10, 2024. Jimmy was born in Nashua, NH to the late Nicholas and Aphrodite Floras on January 12, 1950. He attended the Nashua school system where he was an outstanding high school athlete playing many sports including baseball, basketball, and especially track and field. He placed 2nd in the state Decathlon in 1968.
After high school, he attended the University of Central Connecticut before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. From 1971 to 1973. He achieved the rank of corporal and earned the National Defense Service Medal. Jimmy moved to Florida to pursue his passion for horse racing where he worked as computer technician in the sports and gaming industry. He worked in horse racing throughout Florida, Ohio, West Virginia, and Connecticut.
Jimmy loved all Boston sports, especially the Celtics and Larry Bird. He enjoyed family gatherings, particularly Thanksgiving where he was always laughing and telling stories.
Jimmy is survived by his three siblings Nancy Floras Adams of Avon Park, FL, Susan Floras Noel and her husband Stephen of Litchfield, NH, and his brother Jesse Floras of Nashua, NH. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Marchand and his brother Dorian “Doz” Floras.
He was always a great friend to all, and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
