Exeter, NH - Jeremiah (Jerry) D. Farren, Sr. , 78, of Exeter NH, formerly of Dorchester Massachusetts, passed away on March 17, 2021 after a year long battle with lung cancer, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family.
Jerry was born on January 14, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts, a son of Irish immigrants, Michael Patrick Farren and Elizabeth Mary (Clifford) Farren. He grew up on Savin Hill Avenue and was a graduate of Dorchester High School, Class of 1961. He proudly served as a 0311-Rifleman in the United States Marine Corps from 1961-1965 where he earned the Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal.
On May 9th, 1964 Jerry married his beloved sweetheart Virginia M. (Johnson) Farren of Boston and they raised their family in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
Jerry was a member of, and served as Commander, at the James J. Rice AMVETS Post 28 in Dorchester Massachusetts, for many years.
He retired as a General Supervisor, from the South Boston Postal Annex - General Mail Facility in Boston, Massachusetts where he worked for over 30 years.
After retiring, Jerry spent his time traveling with his wife and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He especially loved spending Winter months in Punta Gorda Florida, at the Maple Leaf Golf and Country Club. He was a volunteer at Saint Vincent De Paul food pantry and chaplain of his local VFW in Exeter, NH.
Jerry leaves behind his son Jeremiah D. Farren Jr. and his wife Kelly of Plainville, Massachusetts, his daughter Shannon (Farren) Bosworth and her husband Craig of Raymond, NH, devoted grandfather to Matthew, Emma and Hannah Farren and Conor and Addison Bosworth, caring brother of his sister Alice (Farren) Smith and her husband Paul of Punta Gorda Florida and his sister Margaret (Farren) Dwyer and her husband Michael of Bourne, Massachusetts. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife Virginia (Johnson) Farren, his brothers Michael Farren, John Farren, Thomas Farren, Bernard Walsh and sister Elizabeth McBride.
Family would like to express sincere appreciation to all family and friends who have been so kind and generous to Jerry over the last several months. The family would also like to thank Rockingham VNA & Hospice for the tender care they provided to Jerry during his final days.
A Catholic Mass will be held and a Burial at the Bourne National Cemetery in Massachusetts. Announcements will be made at a later date.
