Jill Austin Wickham, 85, died May 18, 2026. A resident of Loudon, New Hampshire, Jill moved through the world with a quiet sense of wonder—drawn to the ways people communicate, the ways spaces can be shaped, and the ways the stars have long invited reflection.
Born February 1, 1941, Jill’s life was marked by study and purpose. She began her undergraduate education at Penn State University and later graduated from Boston University, where she earned a doctorate degree. With that foundation, she served as a speech and hearing specialist—work rooted in patience, care, and an attentiveness to the voices and stories of others. Alongside that calling, she was also an astrology chart reader, offering guidance with a thoughtful, searching spirit.
Jill found joy in pursuits that carried both grace and vitality. She loved sailing and travel, and she brought artistry into daily life through interior decorating and the steady companionship of the piano. Jazz music was a favorite current running through her days. She was an accomplished ballroom dancer, moving with poise and presence, and she continued to share her gifts as an astrologer and guide.
She is survived by her children, Todd Winfield Steigerwald and Kent Wickham Steigerwald of Austin TX, and Stacey Blackinton McDermott of Oakland CA; and by her stepchildren, Mara McDermott and Maya McDermott. She is also survived by her sister, Wendy Wickham of Atlanta GA; and her grandchildren, Morgen Steigerwald and Mitzi Steigerwald.
In the many roles she held—student, specialist, musician, traveler, dancer, and guide—Jill left a legacy of thoughtful listening and a gentle curiosity about what can be known, what can be felt, and what can be made beautiful.
