John Young Schreyer III

John Young Schreyer III, 73, passed away March 15, 2013, in Nashua, NH, where he had resided since 2011. Son of John Young Schreyer, Jr, and Clara Miles Schreyer, he was born in Brooklyn, NY, and raised in Miton, PA. He was a former resident of Little Falls, New Jersey, and The Villages, Florida. He was married to Nancy Zechman Schreyer, also of Milton, PA, with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in August.

John graduated from Milton Area High School, Colgate University, and the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. A CPA, he became Managing Partner of the Metropolitan Office of Ernst and Young. After 26 years with EY, he joined Amerada Hess as CFO from which he retired in 2004.

Throughout his life, John was active in community, professional, and church organizations, including the New Jersey Juvenile Review Board, Lycoming College Board of Directors, the NJ Conservation Foundation, and the Little Falls (New Jersey) Elementary School Board where he served as President.

John loved his family most of all, but he also enjoyed years of Friday night tennis, poker nights, weekends of NY football at the Meadowlands, and summers at Lake Naomi, PA. He always looked forward to minor league baseball season with the Crosscutters in Williamsport, PA, of which he was part owner.

Surviving are two children: John Y Schreyer IV and wife Melanie of Putney, London, England, and Beth and husband Brian Lowe of Nashua, NH. John was affectionately known as “Spike” to his five grandchildren: Alex and Evan Lowe, and Jocelyn, Ethan, and Jackson Schreyer. Also surviving are sisters Frances Schreyer Simko of Milton, PA, and Mary Schreyer Beegle of DuBois, PA.

A memorial service and repast for family and friends will be held this summer in the Pocono Mountains. If you wish to attend and need further information regarding the memorial please email [email protected].
