Steven P. Steckevicz, 69, of Nashua, died August 5, 2016 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack after a long, courageous with cancer. He was born in Miami, Florida on October 14, 1946 the son of Chester and Stephanie (Kurta) Steckevicz. He grew up in Nashua, was educated in the local school system, graduating from Nashua High School in 1964. He graduated from Plymouth State University in 1969 where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
He taught at Salem High School where he met the love of his life, his wife and fellow Salem teacher Barbara Tryder. In 1973 he left teaching and was employed at Westinghouse Learning Corporation which later became McGraw-Hill and eventually Apple Corporation Steven retired from Pearson Power School Corporation in 2013. In his free time he enjoyed coaching basketball at many levels of youth including Parks and recreation, CYO, aznd High Sschool Freshmen in Salem. He also enjoyed following New England sports and Notre Dame football.
Members of his family include his wife of 42 years Barbara Steckevicz of Nashua, his son Michael Steckevicz and his fiancée Susan Dame also of Nashua, his daughter Kelley Schupak and her husband Benjamin of Westfield, NJ and his three grandchildren Samuel, Lucy and Rebecca Schupak as well as several cousins.
Visitation was held on Wednesday August 10 from 4 to 8 pm at the Zis-Sweeney Funeral Home 26 Kinsley St. in Nashua. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday August 11 at 10 am in Immaculate Conception Church 216 E. Dunstable Rd. Nashua. Burial followed in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Steven’s name be made to the Community Hospice House 210 Naticook Rd. Merrimack, NH 03054.
