Susan J. (McCallum) Shanahan, age 56, died July 15, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with a neuro muscular disease. Much credit goes to her husband for the loving care he gave her at home for the past 11 years. She was the wife of Shawn R. Shanahan. She was born in Fayetteville, NC on March 29, 1962, when her father was on active duty with the National Guard. She was the daughter of the late Richard C. McCallum, and Nancy S. (Cantara) McCallum. She was a lifelong resident of Nashua and was a 1980 graduate of Nashua High School. She was also a graduate of St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing. She met her husband while she was a member of the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corp in high school. She was a dedicated wife and mother who always put her family first. Her favorite pastime was sunbathing in her backyard, when she had the time to do so.
Before her retirement due to illness, she had been employed at Dr. Richard Dai’s office for over 20 years. She was a very caring and compassionate nurse who was known as “The nurse with the long Hair.” She loved her patients and loved her work there. She was predeceased by her father, Richard McCallum, her sister-in-law, Lynn McCallum, and her mother-in-law, Jewel Shanahan Fournier. Besides her husband, she is survived by her son and daughter- in-law, Tyler and Katie Shanahan, her daughter and son-in-law Tawny and Brian Wesolowski, her three grandchildren, Connor Shanahan, Isabella and Dominic Wesolowski, her mother, Nancy McCallum, her brother and sister-in-law Daniel and Linda McCallum, three brothers-in-law, Thomas (Tim) Shanahan of Vermont, Michael and Nancy Shanahan of Holderness, NH, Scott and Toy Shanahan of Wisconsin, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews & cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 4:00PM-7:00PM at the Zis-Sweeney & St. Laurent Funeral Home, 26 Kinsley St. Nashua. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, July 20th at 9:30AM at St. Patrick Church, 29 Spring St. Nashua. Burial will immediately follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Hudson.
