

Viola (Scesny) Fortugno, 85, died at home on October 1, 2009 after a long battle with cancer. Born in Clinton, Mass on August 26, 1924, Viola was the youngest child of Alexsander and Veronica (Nicewicz) Szczesni. As a child and young adult, she lived on a farm in Bolton, Mass. She was educated in the Clinton schools. She and her husband, Guy Fortugno, made their home in Clinton and had six children before his death in 1959. She worked at waitressing, weaving, or packaging jobs to provide for her family. She moved to Nashua in 1982. She retired from Lowell Shoe Company in Hudson, NH in 1989.Viola loved sewing, knitting, crocheting and reading. She had a bountiful collection of well-loved books. Her fingers were often busy crocheting animal magnets to add to her abundant refrigerator magnet collection, knitting a teddy bear, hat or sweater, or crocheting an afghan. She enjoyed playing games and reading email on the computer her children purchased for her 80th birthday.In addition to her husband and parents, she was pre-deceased by her brothers Stephen in 1972, Walter in 1991 and her sister, Sophie in 1994. She was also pre-deceased by her grandson, Dean Ingerson in 2007.She is survived by her daughters, Lorraine Fortugno of Winchendon, Mass, Sandy Morin and her husband, Pete of Litchfield, NH, Janice Ledoux of Pepperell, Mass, Betty Ingerson of Chicopee, Mass, Viola Sweetser and her husband, Sonny of Claremont, NH and her son, Guy Fortugno who lived with her in Nashua.She is survived by her grandchildren Sherri Ingerson of Greenfield, Mass, Christopher Cioffi of Claremont, NH, Michelle Lambert of Litchfield, Nicole Ingerson of Leominster, Mass, Diana Ledoux of Pepperell, Rick Ledoux of Nashua and Samantha Gamache of Clinton, Mass and two great-grandchildren, Anneliese Lambert of Litchfield, NH and Jameson Gamache of Clinton, Mass and many nieces and nephews. A third great-grandchild, Viviana Lambert is expected any day.Calling hours were held on Monday, October 5, 2009 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the ST. LAURENT FUNERAL HOME, 116 Elm Street, Nashua, NH 03060. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday at 10:00am at St. Patrick Church in Nashua, NH.
