Walt was born on December 29, 1960, in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he grew up and attended public schools. He later moved to New Hampshire, where he met the mother of his three children, Robin Lamy. Walt is survived by his daughters, Melissa Panza and Sherrie Wilson, and his son, Holliday Major. He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Joshua Wilson, Jacob Wilson, Jocelynn Wilson, Matteo Petrenko, Vanessa Panza, and Evelynn Major.
He is also survived by his mother, Marjorie Cummings, his sister Laurie Lacasse who was not only his sister but also his best friend, and his sister Susan Pettazoni; his aunt, Phyllis Phillips, lovingly known as “Auntie Philly Dilly” who held a special place in his heart; and his cousins, Tiger Phillips, Dave Phillips, and Sarah Tallman, along with many other extended family and friends. Walt was predeceased by his father, Walter Major Sr., and brother, Daniel Major.
Throughout his life, Walt worked as a stagehand, helping set up for popular concerts throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Music was one of his greatest passions. He loved playing the guitar and was a breathtaking drummer whose love for music shined through every performance. He was a die-hard New England Patriots fan. In his free time, he enjoyed making people laugh and had a way of lighting up every room he walked into.
Walt had a personality that was impossible to forget. He connected with people through music and brought energy and laughter wherever he went. Usually dressed in a bandana and cut-off jean shorts, with music always playing nearby, Walt stayed true to himself in every room he entered. His sense of humor could be wild at times, but beneath it was a heart of gold. He cherished time spent with his children and, later, his grandchildren. It was always a party when Gypsy was around.
Above all, Walt cherished his family more than anything. Those who knew him will remember how he made people feel, his endless stories, and his unforgettable sayings that kept spirits high. Whether it was "Peace, Love and Music" or "Oh fur f*** sake" spoken in his Irish accent, he always left a lasting impression.
His charm, strong family values, laughter, and presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who loved him.
Rock on, Dad, until we meet again!
