Bette Joyce Walden

Bette Joyce (Kent) Walden, of Seymour, passed away July 21, 2016 at IU Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN. after a brief illness. She was born May 04, 1946 in Bloomington, IN the daughter of Edward R. and Doris E. (Stevens) Kent, they preceded her in death.
Bette married Billy Ray Walden on November 02, 1974, he survives.
Bette attended Bloomington High School before graduating in 1964 from University High School in Bloomington. She attended Indiana University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1968. After graduating, she taught 2 years at Edgewood High School while returning to Indiana University completing her Master’s Degree in Library Sciences in 1970. Bette went on to work at the University of Southern Indiana for 25 years, teaching and retiring as Director of Library Services.
Bette enjoyed reading, history and watching IU Basketball. She was a caring compassionate person who never knew a stranger. Her topics of conversation extended to everyone she met. Her passion for books and reading caused her to amass a tremendous personal library. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband Bill Walden of Evansville, 2 brothers; Bob (Mary Jo), and Tom (Diana) Kent of N. Vernon, 2 sisters; Mary Beth (Randy) Woods of Bloomington and Nancy Kent of Seymour. She had 14 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 1:00pm with 1 hour visitation prior to service. Interment will be at Duncan Cemetery in Brown County. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, July 25, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 P.M.
