DeLorres Earlene Kapluck, nee Daugherty, passed away Sunday, August 2, in Nashville, Indiana. Born in Akron, Ohio on April 23, 1945, she was the only child of DeForrest Daugherty and Ruth (Grossel) Daugherty. A longtime resident of Geneva and Madison, De worked for 35 years at North Ridge Veterinary Hospital, where she was able to put her deep love of animals to good use. An avid birder, De loved nature and the outdoors. She was a huge fan of baseball, and a lifelong aviation enthusiast. She was also an accomplished artist; she particularly enjoyed field sketching in the outdoors, as well as painting. She was also an award-winning photographer. The year she spent in San Diego, CA as a child, and the two years in the mountains of Montana in her sixties, were fondly remembered as highlights of her life. In her later years, she took up the ukulele and continued to fill sketchbooks. De was a friendly eccentric, with a wide range of hobbies and interests, who brightened the lives of all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her ex-husband Jack Russell Kapluck, and her half-brothers, John and William “Doc” Daugherty. She is survived by her son Jack Ian Kapluck and daughter-in-law Ria Kapluck (Wolfert), of Columbus, Indiana.
A funeral Mass will be held at noon Friday August 14, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Bloomington Indiana.
