

George Melvin Blair, Jr., 79, of Nashville died Saturday, April 4, 2015 in his residence with his family at his side. He was born October 13, 1935 in Carbon Cliff, Illinois to George M. Blair, Sr. and Nellie Mae Robinson Blair. He was a retired mechanical engineer.
On May 23, 1956 George married the former Barbara Bergevin and she survives him. Other survivors include two sons, George Alexander Blair and his wife Lisa of Buffalo, New York and Paul Blair and his wife Diane of North Syracuse, New York; a daughter, Sarah Blair-Lamb and her husband Gaston Vidana of Raleigh, North Carolina; a sister, Barbara Goodwin and her husband James of Port Byron, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Lara Blair of Saline, Michigan; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William J. Blair; and two sisters, Leona Malinoski and Dorothy Blair.
Memberships include St. Matthews Anglican Church and the Free and Accepted Masons, North Liberty, Indiana Lodge # 266 where he was a 50 year Mason. After graduating from United Township High School in East Moline, Illinois in 1953 George went on to graduate from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago in 1959 and then became a licensed Professional Engineer in Indiana. Music was a passion and he played in dance bands, dixieland bands, gospel bands, was a church organist, a percussionist with the Brown County Community Band, had been in community choruses and performed musical comedies on stage.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday April 10, 2015 at 4:00 PM in Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home, 1682 State Road 135 North., with Father Dan Conley officiating. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to services on Friday in the funeral home. A reception will follow the service at St. Matthews Anglican Church, Nashville.
