Joseph Titkos, age 85, of Columbus, Indiana, passed away on May 30, 2026 and entered into the presence of his Lord, surrounded by the love of his family and the faith he carried throughout his life. Joseph was born on October 30, 1940, in Budapest, Hungary. He came to America in 1949 at the age of nine, where he met the love of his life, Mary, in the fifth grade in Miami, Florida. Joseph and Mary were married on August 1, 1959.
Joseph was a husband to his beloved wife, Mary, who survives him after 66 years of marriage; a loving father to 8 children; a cherished Papa to 20 grandchildren; and a proud Old Papa to 27 great-grandchildren. Together, Joseph and Mary built a family that became his greatest treasure and his legacy will live on through the family he loved so deeply.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Mary; his children, Trina Titkos of Reno, NV; Tami (Alan) Schwenk of Columbus, IN; Bridget "Tonie" (Gary) Pittman of Columbus, IN; Tommie (Brad) St. John of Paris, TN; Tabbi (Dale) Gibbons of Salem, IN; and Joey Titkos of Nashville, TN. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Terri Titkos and Tricia (Jeff) Eisfelder as well as his two granddaughters, Marybeth Pittman and Chelsea Eisfelder.
Joseph proudly served his country as a United States Marine. Following his military service, he spent many years as a commercial transportation driver with TransAm Trucking, setting an example of hard work, commitment, and dedication.
When he wasn't working, Joseph enjoyed fishing with his children and spending time playing Texas Hold'em with family and friends. Whether casting a line, untangling a line, or sitting around a card table, he treasured the time spent with those he loved. His presence brought comfort, wisdom, laughter, and strength to all who knew him.
In later years, Joseph faced many health challenges with dignity and courage. In 2010, Joseph battled colon cancer, it was with his faith in Jesus Christ, that he recovered and considered it a miracle from God. Though later health struggles came after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, he never allowed it to define him. His strength, perseverance, and trust in the Lord were an inspiration to all who loved and knew him.
Most importantly, Joseph was a man of faith. He trusted in Jesus Christ and found peace in knowing that when his earthly journey ended, he would be welcomed home with open arms. We all take comfort in imagining the joyful reunion that awaited him in Heaven, where his daughters, Terri and Tricia, and two beloved granddaughters, Marybeth and Chelsea, were there to greet him.
Though our hearts are hurting by his passing, we rejoice in the promise of Heaven and the knowledge that Joseph is whole again, free from pain, suffering and resting in the presence of his Lord, Jesus Christ.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Christian burial service on August 15, 2026 at 11a.m. at St Agnes Church in Nashville, Indiana. A luncheon provided by the St Agnes Hospitality Community will follow immediately after the service. A private family burial will take place later that day.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Joseph’s honor to Parkinson’s Disease Research, Colon Cancer Research and Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
Joseph was deeply loved, will be greatly missed, and will forever remain in our hearts. Though he is no longer by our side, his love and his strength, are forever imprinted in our hearts
