It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Paul Schultheis, our friend and brother. Paul was born on January 9, 1956 in South Bend, IN. He graduated from Central Columbia High School, Bloomsburg, PA in 1973 where he was President of the Student Council and played on the football and track teams. After graduating, Paul spent a year as an exchange student in Brazil. Upon returning, Paul enlisted in the Air Force where he attended the Defense Language Institute and specialized in Russian. After his discharge from the service, Paul attended college at both IU and ISU and settled in the Bloomington, IN area. Paul never lived life to work. He worked to live life. His interests have always been varied and eclectic and his professional endeavors equally diverse. Life in Nashville, IN, though, was what Paul enjoyed most. He loved owning a shop in town, Waldborough’s, was active in the Chamber of Commerce, and happily spent the last years of his working life at the Brown County Inn.
Paul leaves behind many friends here in Nashville and elsewhere in the country and the world. He is survived by his brothers John Schultheis, Castro Valley, CA, and David Schultheis, Philadelphia, PA, and sisters Anne Marie Heil, Philadelphia, PA and Clare Schultheis, New York, NY, and his cat, Mia.
It is hard to do Paul justice in words – he was the kind of man you needed to meet and spend time with to understand and even then he could throw you a curve. In many ways he defied description, but what can always be said about Paul is he said what he meant and he meant what he said. He was accountable and could be counted on and was a go-to person when you needed a smile and a hug. He was loaded with talent and intellect and could amaze with the things he knew.
How we will miss him!
