Ruth was born December 21, 1936 in Lafayette, Indiana to John J. and Edna M. (Schmitt) Steill. She married the love of her life, Dean H. Price, June 25, 1955 in Lafayette, Indiana. Ruth said that Dean was the only guy she dated that she couldn’t imagine living without.
Ruth and Dean both dreamed of living in Brown County and realized their dream when they moved their family of five to Nashville in 1968. She quickly became a member of the Saint Agnes Catholic church and loved attending Sunday Mass along with working with the other women of the church to help in any way she could. She especially liked volunteering at the Saint Vincent DePaul Society. That church is where she found peace along with a lot of very good friends that she considered her second family.
Ruth worked at several different jobs in Nashville, including the Nut Shop for Les and Mary Rudd and also ran the laundry mat for them for a period of time. But the one she was most proud of was running the reading lab at Nashville Elementary School. She loved working with the children and was very proud of the accomplishments they made. She never forgot any of the students that she worked with and was always very happy whenever they remembered her and spoke to her when they saw her around town. She spent almost 60 years in the Nashville community and truly loved it.
Ruth loved sewing and quilting and working in her gardens around the house. Her family was always important in her life and she loved spending time with them.
Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband Dean H. Price, one son Michael D. Price, her parents John J. and Edna M. (Schmitt) Steill, three sisters, Patricia Hayden, Nancy Heick, and Jean Murphy, and one brother, Stanley J. Steill.
Ruth is survived by her son John (Marilyn) Price of Nashville, Indiana, her daughter, Caron (William) Kautz of Dana, Indiana, two grandchildren, Adam M. Price of Indianapolis, Indiana and Amanda C. Kautz of Dana, Indiana. Two brothers, Nicholas Steill of Columbia City, Indiana and Edward Steill of Battleground, Indiana and one sister, Theresa Steill of Lafayette, Indiana, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in honor of Ruth to Saint Vincent DePaul; C/O SVDP Brown County; PO Box 577, Nashville, IN 47448 or to Mother’s Cupboard Community Kitchen.
