It is with great sadness that the family of Alan Andrew Edwards announces his passing after a brutal tragedy. He was pronounced dead on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at the age of 61 in Nashville, TN. Alan will be lovingly remembered by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas “Tommy” Edwards, Sr. and Evelyn Westmoreland Edwards. He is survived by two brothers, James “Jimmy” Thomas Edwards, Jr. (Kimberlee), Scott Coleman Edwards (Carol); two nephews, Charles Thomas Edwards, James Patrick Edwards (Jaclyn); niece, Jennifer Emmaryne Edwards; three great-nephews, Jack Patrick Edwards, James Thomas Edwards, Charlie Hollis Edwards; great-niece, Geny Meredith Edwards; step-nephew, Jordan Bailey; step-nieces, McKenzie Bailey and Kayla Jones, sister-in-law Gail Geny Edwards; aunt, Anne Edwards; uncle, David Westmoreland; numerous cousins; extended church family; and many loving friends.
A well respected member of the community, Alan left a legacy of love and generosity. As a committed activist, dedicated Sunday School teacher, and dog lover, Alan’s investment was in people. He found the secret to living life with joy and peace and changed lives through his kindness. Commented friends have said, “The world will be a lesser place without him in it.” Loved and respected by all who knew him, Alan will be deeply missed.
Alan was a graduate of Hillsboro High School with a BWS degree from Memphis State University (Cum Laude) and a BA from Belmont University (Magna Cum Laude); Vice President (retired) of George D. Edwards Electric Company, former vestry member of St. Ann’s Episcopal, former Elder of Downtown Presbyterian church, and one of the founders of Nashville CARES.
Two memorial services will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2018. First at Downtown Presbyterian (154 5th Ave N, Nashville, TN 37219) from 12:15-1pm and the second at Holy Trinity Community (6727 Charlotte Pike, Nashville, TN 37209) from 1:30-2:30pm. There will be an LGBTQ Pride Luncheon and Concert fundraiser dedicated to Alan at Holy Trinity Community starting at 11:30am for all of those who would like to attend. A graveside service will held on June 23rd, 2018 at 12:30pm at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
