Ann Elizabeth Mccarley Greer Shoulders

She is survived by her loving children, Emily Greer Leftwich, Clifton Greer III, John Randolph Greer (Regan), and grandchildren, Matthew Thomas Leftwich (Rohini), Mary Katherine Leftwich, Kendal Magee Beahm, and Ellen Barclay Beahm. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sadie Hamm and Theodore Trimmier McCarley, her sister, Sarah McCarley Cheshire, and her brother, Theodore Trimmier McCarley, Jr., husbands, Dr. Clifton E. Greer, Jr. and Dr. Harrison H. Shoulders.

Elizabeth, known to friends and family as Libby, attended Ward- Belmont and Vanderbilt University where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and president of Delta Delta Delta sorority. After graduating from Vanderbilt magna cum laude in 1945, she attended the University of Minnesota earning a Master’s Degree in Child Development. Libby then returned to Nashville to teach at Eakin School.

Following her marriage to Clifton Greer in 1950, she became a devoted wife and mother to her three children. She faithfully supported her children and grandchildren in their educational and extracurricular activities. Libby was also dedicated to her church, Downtown Presbyterian, where she was a charter member serving on the Board of Trustees and teaching Sunday School. She actively supported her church’s outreach program by helping regularly with the weekly lunches for the homeless.

Libby was a member of the Centennial Club, National Society of Colonial Dames, and Monteagle Sunday School Assembly where she loved spending her summers. She was an avid tennis player and faithful Vanderbilt Basketball fan.

The family thanks caregivers Gwen Epps and Madleyn Miller and the Caris Hospice staff for their loving support during her illness.

Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, April 5th from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Marshall, Donnelly, Combs Funeral Home, 201 25th Ave N. in Nashville.

Graveside Services will be Sunday, April 7th at 3:00 p.m. at the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly, P.O.
