In addition, she is survived by sisters-in-law Dianne Wild (Skip), Dana Croswhite (Eric), Ann Bramlette Hawkins (Kenny), and brother-in-law Denson Buttrey (John). Anne was predeceased by her husband David Roscoe Buttrey Jr, sister Caroline Trabue Reed and brother-in-law Dan Lytle Buttrey.
Anne and her twin sister Lucy started Ensworth its inaugural year in 1958. It was there that they forged deep, lifelong friendships that have continued to grow stronger for sixty-six years. Anne spent summers at Camp Merrie-Woode in North Carolina. She and Lucy attended St. Mary’s School for Girls in Sewanee where other lifelong friendships developed with girls throughout the Southeast. Her senior year, she met David Buttrey who would ultimately become her loving husband. Upon graduation, Anne and Lucy matriculated to the University of Alabama where they were members of Kappa Kappa Gamma. After college, Anne returned to Nashville to work for WLAC Radio and then J C Bradford. She moved to Dallas for two years to continue working in the investment business. In 1979 returning home, she found her true calling in life when she took a position with Richter’s Jewelers, ultimately serving as its manager for eighteen years. During that tenure, Anne found great pleasure year after year in counseling young men on the perfect engagement ring to purchase for their future bride or helping a client choose a special piece of fine jewelry.
Anne had a strong sense of adventure, whether traveling out West on her own for a month in her early twenties, whitewater rafting for a week through the Grand Canyon, hiking in the Colorado mountains with her two Davids, or exploring Europe many times with friends and family. One of her favorite pastimes was walking the trails of Percy Warner Park weekly with her closest friends. She loved the beauty of the outdoors whether camping, hiking, canoeing or serving as a patrol leader for her son’s Boy Scout troop. She was a deeply loyal friend to many who will remember her for her ever-present smile, engaging personality, sense of humor and genteel character.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to the exceptional staff of Abe’s Garden Memory Care for the love, devotion and attentive care they provided to Anne for the past several years.
