Annette Arlene Cunningham, age 80, of Readyville, Tennessee passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023, just one day shy of her 81st birthday. She was born to Harry Philun Cantonwine and Ann Marie Cantonwine (Mertz) in Glendale, California. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Cunningham and her son, John Robert; sisters, Marlene and Elaine; her father-in-law, David Howard Cunningham and mother-in-law, Myrtle Irene Cunningham (Howard).
Annette is survived by her daughter, Laura Lynn; son, Matthew Stewart; daughter, Patricia Marie and her husband, Mark Abernathy; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Annette was living in Los Angeles when she met Don. When they married, she became an instant mother to his three small children. They relocated to Don’s hometown of Mountain City, TN, with a population under 3,000. Annette was immediately welcomed into the very large family, which helped the transition immensely. She had many brothers-and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews who she loved like family.
They relocated to Johnson City, and Don and Annette welcomed Laura, who completed the new family. In 1983, Don, Annette, Patty, and Laura moved to Nashville where Annette began her 31-year career at Vanderbilt which brought her much pride.
Annette enjoyed reading and writing poetry, listening to music, and her online art and games, but mostly she loved being a Nana.
A committal service for Annette will be held 2:00 PM on Friday, July 7, 2023 at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204.
