

Archie Thomas Grant Jr. of Ft. Myers, FL. passed away in Orlando, FL. on January 13, 2017. He was born July, 19, 1936 in Wartrace, TN. Archie graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Cum-laude) from Vanderbilt University in 1958 and with a Master’s of Science from Tulane University in 1962. He married Ruby Jean (Hudgins) in 1957 and is survived by three children: Archie Thomas Grant III of Nashville, TN, Karen Lynne (Grant) Handley of Orlando, FL and Gary Lee Grant of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by three grandchildren; Holly Marie (Grant) Long and husband, Brian of Pittsburgh, PA, Grant Thomas Handley and wife Rebecca of Center Hill, FL; Caroline Frances (Handley) Feagle and husband, Justin of Deer Park, FL and five great grandchildren Noelle Marie Long, Mayland James Handley, Cason James Feagle, Myles Gene Handley and Lainey Lynn Feagle. He is survived by a sister Sylvia Marie Grant of Nashville, TN. Archie moved to Ft. Myers in 1967 to become President of Johnson Engineering, Inc. He served as President until 1978 and as Chairman of the board until 1990. Johnson Engineering expanded many times during this period and became a leader in Surface Water Management. They developed their own office facilities on Johnson Street. He was a member of Cypress Lake United Methodist Church. Archie enjoyed athletics, including playing on a Tennessee state runner-up baseball team, and state basketball championship team at West End High School. He played short stop on the varsity baseball team his junior and senior year at Vanderbilt University. He was competitive even in his senior years winning nine gold medals in the Senior Olympics. Services for Archie Grant Jr will be held in Nashville, TN at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home and Memorial Park at 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 10:30am with a service following at 11:30am. He will be laid to rest next to his wife Ruby Jean (Hudgins) of 57 years.
