
Ava Foster Sellers of Nashville died November 25, 2013. She was born to Richard Chandler and Alma Parker Sellers on November 24, 1919 in Lexington, KY. She received her BA from the University of Kentucky and a MA from Peabody College. Most of her career was as Director of Career Planning and Placement at Vanderbilt University. She was named Director Emerita, The Career Planning and Placement Service. She had daily and long-term contact with students and alumni, and University personnel, local and national employers, and career representatives. She received the Rob Roy Purdy Award for dedication and services to Vanderbilt students; the Distinguished Service Award of the Southern Association of College and Employers; and special recognition as a representative to its national counterpart. The Lumsden-Sellers Award of the Tennessee Association of Colleges and Employers honors her as a co-founder and is given annually to an outstanding member.She was a member of Vine Street Christian Church. Until her health declined she was active in many professional and other organizations including the Nashville Chapter of the UN, Life Long Learning at Vanderbilt, the Vanderbilt Woman's Club Book Group and the Garden Club for Campus Beautification. Miss Sellers is survived by a cousin, Roger D. Bishop (Martha) of Nashville.Gratitude is expressed to the staff of the Health Center at Richland Place for their care and support.Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2013 from 2-4pm and Monday, December 2, 2013 from 10am until service time at 11am at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs 201 25th Ave, North, Nashville. Interment will be in Elizaville, KY.Memorial gifts may be made to the Vanderbilt University Women's Club Scholarship Fund.
