It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Barbara "Grace" Martin, aged 76, who passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Grace was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her warmth, kindness, and beautiful spirit touched everyone who knew her. She was a woman of great strength.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob Martin, her daughter, Penny Blunkall, and her grandson, Nathan Blunkall. She is survived by her son, Tim (Jeri) Bess, and her cherished grandchildren: Dylan Bess (Haley), Christina Houston (Josh), Alicia Houston (Ben), and Roger Blunkall. Grace was also a devoted great-grandmother to 10 great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy and whom she adored deeply. Grace’s beloved dog, Harley, was a constant companion who brought her comfort and love throughout the years. Their bond was a special one, and the joy Harley brought to Grace’s life will never be forgotten.
For the past year, Grace fought a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout her journey, she demonstrated immense strength and resilience, facing each day with grace and determination. Her love for her family and her unwavering faith were evident in everything she did, and they gave her the strength to keep fighting until the very end.
For over 35 years, Grace worked as a dedicated Meat Manager at Kroger, where she earned the affection and respect of her coworkers and customers. Her hard work and kindness were unmatched, and she made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working with her. Grace’s passion for cooking and baking was a central part of her life. Her cakes were legendary, but it was her ability to create delicious, home-cooked meals that brought people together. Whether it was a holiday feast, a family gathering, or a simple dinner, Grace’s kitchen was always filled with warmth and love.
In the last four years of her life, Grace made Hendersonville her home. Though she embraced her new community, she carried with her the heart of Nashville, the place that shaped her early life and where her roots remained strong. She will forever be remembered for her big heart, her generosity, and her ability to make everyone feel like family.
A celebration of Grace's life will take place on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Mount Olivet Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1101 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, TN. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, and graveside service from 2:15 PM to 2:45 PM.
Pallbearers: Dylan Bess, Josh Houston, Ben Houston, Mark Griffin, Ed Jenkins, Kyler Houston.
Grace may no longer be with us, but her legacy of love, kindness, and the memories of her delicious meals will forever live in our hearts. Her spirit will continue to guide us, and she will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
