

Mrs. Barbara W. Muhich, age 80, passed away on December 8, 2013 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Jefferson County, AL on June 2, 1933. Barbara graduated from Albany High School in Albany, GA, and attended Auburn University.
After 26 years of service, Barbara retired from Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) in Newport News, VA. She served as Executive Assistant to the Director of Engineering, various Vice Presidents, and the President of NNS. She also served as a project manager on the Seawolf Submarine Program. Barbara attained the Certified Professional Secretary designation and was the first to do so at NNS. Her attention to detail and dedication to excellence inspired all who knew her.
A committed Christian, Barbara served the Lord faithfully throughout her life. She attended the North Riverside Baptist Church in Newport News, VA and was active in her church choir and her Sunday School class. She also served regularly on the church counting committee. Barbara’s life reflected her faith as she demonstrated love and compassion for others.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Muhich, her father, Eldie Ray Woodham, her mother, Ruth Y. King, her step-father Nelson M. King and her brother, Albert Ray Woodham. She is survived by her brother, William Gary Woodham (June), her son, Jonathan Ray Lawson (Anita), her daughter, Kathryn Joy Flannery (Jim), her step-son, Richard A. Muhich (Cyndi), and her step-son, William E. Muhich (Dawn). She is also survived by her grandchildren Jonathan P. Lawson, Ryan A. Annable, Erica L. Annable, Christopher B. Muhich, Ashley N. Muhich and Lillian V. Muhich.
The family wishes to publically offer special thanks to Dr. Vera Huffnagle, the staff at Brighton Gardens in Brentwood and Guardian Hospice for the love and remarkable care that was given to Barbara during her six year battle with Alzheimer’s.
Visitation will be held Wednesday December 11, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Thursday December 12, 2013 at 2:30p.m. with interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
