Barbara was born on February 18, 1939 in Nashville, TN. She graduated from Overbrook School and Hillsboro High School, then received her Bachelor’s Degree from Vanderbilt University. After graduating, Barbara accepted a position with the State Department and moved to Washington, DC. She excitedly accepted future State Dept. assignments in Panama City, Panama, and later in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Barbara eventually returned to Nashville, and served as an Executive Secretary for the Diocese of Nashville until she retired.
Barbara is remembered most by all who knew her for her kindness and generosity. She was sharp as a tack, with a quick wit, and never forgot a detail in the storied history of our family and its roots, as she shared and told the stories, passing them down to all of us.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Harvill Freeland and Nellie Freeland, and brother Harvill Freeland, Jr. She is survived by her sister Frances Freeland Davis of Diablo, CA. nephews Harvill Freeland III of Bellingham, WA. and Geoff Davis of Mountain View, CA,, niece Julie Pocinwong of Issaquah, WA, and numerous cousins.
Visitation and a funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at St. Matthew Catholic Church at 535 Sneed Road W., Franklin, TN 37069. Visitation begins at 9:30 AM. The funeral mass begins at 11:00 AM. Barbara specifically invited all her family and friends to join together in a luncheon at the church after the mass concludes.
She also requested that in Lieu of flowers in remembrance, please donate to the St. Matthew Catholic Church Bereavement Ministry.
