Bennett Joseph Begnaud
June 18, 1940 – September 6, 2020
Bennett J. Begnaud of Nashville passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2020. Ben was born on June 18, 1940 in Carencro, Louisiana to Fernand Begnaud and Ethel Comeaux Begnaud. He was a veteran of the United States Airforce, serving from 1959-1962 as a mechanic at Hahn AB, Germany. A loyal employee of South Central Bell Telephone Company, Ben advanced from installer repairman to toll testboard before retiring as a manager in 1996 after 31 years of service.
In his pastime, Bennett contacted over one hundred countries before 1992 as a certified Amateur Extra Class Radio Operator and was known under the call signs KA4N and KA4HLJ. He was an active member of the 10-10 International Net, number 50786. Through the Nashville Amateur Radio Club, he volunteered at the Special Olympics; he was registered with the ARRL Amateur Radio Emergency Service and as a Skywarn Spotter for the National Weather Service. Also a genealogist, he traced record of his family tree over eight generations.
A Roman Catholic, Bennett faithfully attended Saturday evening Masses at Holy Rosary Church in Donelson and served with the Knights of Columbus.
Bennett is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Nell Young Begnaud; his daughter, Jennifer Ann Rooker and son, Joseph Alexander Begnaud; his daughter-in-law Beata Niedzialkowska; his grandson, Andrew Ryan Rooker, and granddaughter, Emily Lauren Rooker.
A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Wednesday September 9, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. He will be laid to rest Thursday in Cearly Cemetery in Toone, TN near the graves of his wife’s family.
