Betty "adopted" us soon after we moved to Mississippi, and we developed a beautiful friendship that will last in our hearts forever. We have wonderful memories of spending time with John and Betty in our homes. John would sometimes play his guitar and sing. Betty was the administrative secretary for the Division of Otolaryngology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and was instrumental in resurrecting the residency program. She was a magnet for the young residents and charmed them with her smile and loving ways. John and Betty loved their children and family, which we feel a part of. We were saddened to hear of Betty's death  and send our deepest condolences,

I snapped this at Thanksgiving on the farm.  I love their happy smiles--I'll miss Aunt Betty's sweet interest in everything we were doing, and her classy style, her fancy recipes, her love of games. She taught us so many Sunday school songs: He is My Everything, I'll Be Alright, Fill My Cup, Lord, I'm Happy Today, and so many more. She's the first person who taught us Four Kings in a Corner and Boggle. We had such a fun time visiting in Jackson one time during the Miss Universe pageant back in the 70s--Aunt Betty passed out paper and pencils and made us vote for the winner and runner up. I guessed right! When she and Uncle John visited, we would tiptoe around in the morning, because Aunt Betty loved her beauty rest. And coffee. :) We were just happy they'd arrived, since we'd been looking down the road for them for about four hours, and no phones to keep us updated. I loved the way she would cut her eyes and smile when she disagreed with someone. Aunt Betty also gave me one of my best childhood playmates, Paige, who was just a little older, but always wiser.  I know Aunt Betty's grandchildren will miss her terribly because of her tremendous influence in their lives. I'm grateful for her life.
