Billy J. Slate, 91, passed away on November 20, 2018, in Hermitage, TN. Born in Nashville on May 25, 1927, he was the son of Joe B. and Hazel Clark Slate. He saw combat in World War II as a Navy gunner’s mate on the U.S.S. North Carolina; in the Korean War as a Marine at the Chosin Reservoir; and in Vietnam as a civilian electrical contractor. A member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, he was employed by the state of Tennessee and by the Tennessee Valley Authority. In later years he worked on several large projects in the Middle East and Africa. Billy is survived by his brother, Allen (JoAnn) Slate White House, TN; his sister Betty Slate Corlew, Nashville; sons Michael (Kathy) Slate
of Nashville, TN and Patrick (Regina) Slate, of Reidville, SC; daughter Julie Slate (Tim) Alexander, of LaVergne, TN; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
