SUMNER, Bobbie Jean (Steele), age 85, formerly of Mt. Juliet, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2019 in Ashland City, TN. She was a graduate of Central High School, Helena, Arkansas in 1952 and attended Bethany Nazarene College where she met and married Lee Steele. Jesus and her family were always most important to her, and she was known for putting them first in everything she did. However, she also managed to excel as a realtor, hair dresser, floral designer, interior decorator, and countless other ventures. If you can think of any creative job, there is a chance Bobbie had picked it up at some point in her life. She was an amazing cook (ask any of her family members, they will tell you she was the best in the world!), a force to be reckoned with (especially when it came to her kids/grandkids clearing their plates before they left the dinner table), and a style icon (she would as soon just stay home if it meant leaving the house in ugly shoes). She taught her children to love the Lord with their whole hearts, and in turn they taught their children, and now grandchildren. She loved others fiercely, and considered her surviving husband, Don, a huge blessing, as she was able to love two amazing men in her lifetime (she called this her “double blessing”). Her legacy is one that will not soon be forgotten. Bobbie is preceded in death by her parents Robert Calvin and Edith Wooten, her brother Larry, and her husband of 45 years Lee Steele. She is survived by her husband Don Sumner Sr.: sister, Kaye Southworth and her husband, Dwight: sister, Judy Denison and her husband, Jeep: daughter, Pam Steele Sesock and her husband Jim: son, Jerry Steele and his wife Cindi: son, Kevin Steele and his wife Kristin: daughter Kim and her husband Brian: as well as 14 grandchildren, their spouses, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, October 28, 2019 at Faith Community Church in Ashland City, Tennessee. Special thank you to the Sumner family for all of their love, support, and aid over the years, and especially in the last few months. Another big thank you to Bobbie and Don’s neighbors in their Del Webb community for going above and beyond to help them with anything and everything they ever needed. Our gratitude goes beyond what words can convey.
