Bruce is survived by his daughter, Carrie (Justin) Simpson; his granddaughter, Emma (Jace) Williams; as well as numerous cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Houston “H.L.” and Lorie Rowlett.
As a young man, Bruce enjoyed hunting quail and raising bird dogs. He would often take hunting trips with his cousins and friends.
Bruce was a doting father and didn’t miss an activity that his daughter was involved in. He was always there, cheering her on and when coached the many softball teams that she played on. When his granddaughter Emma came along, he was right there for her as well, watching her soccer matches and being her cheerleader. He was also her playmate, and one could never guess what adventures they might get into for the day. To put it mildly, he enjoyed spoiling “his girls”.
Bruce also had a love for riding his Harley motorcycles. He enjoyed riding with his friends but also wasn’t afraid to hit the road solo. One of his inspirations for his many road trips was watching Tennessee Crossroads to see what cool hidden gems he might find right close by. He also made a mission to find all of the ferry boats that he could get to within a day’s ride and take a picture – mission accomplished. His favorite trip though was his rides to Maggie Valley in North Carolina. He went there many times.
In recent years, Bruce enjoyed relaxing in his recliner and watching his shows. He also enjoyed cheering on the Vols and Commodores and the Ladies’ US National Soccer Team. He would always call to let you know whenever these teams were playing.
Bruce was loved and will be missed by many.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with the Celebration of Life at 1:00pm at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home, 429 Donelson Pike, Nashville, TN 37214. The burial will immediately follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1101 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, TN 37210.
