Jack was born on June 24, 1931 in Hermitage, TN, the only child of Buford and Tommie Steele. Jack literally grew up in what is now Percy Priest Lake. His childhood home overlooked Stones River and was situated where the playground at Long Hunter State Park is now located.
After attending Donelson High School, he answered the call from the US Navy to serve his country throughout the Korean conflict aboard the USS Bremerton. He returned home to marry Dorothy Ann Holman(deceased), and they settled in the Donelson community in Nashville where he lived until his death on August 22, 2024. Jack and Ann were married for 64 years and had one daughter, Brenda Pugh(Mark), two grandchildren, Rachel Williams(Shane) and Nathan Pugh(Anna), and two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Abigail Williams.
He achieved the certification of Master Printer and worked as a printer in Nashville for several companies before his retirement. Jack was a Deacon at Lebanon Road Church of Christ and worked with the Benevolent Program where he spent countless hours assisting individuals who had fallen on hard times. When he was not involved in church work, he would be on a river or lake fishing or in the woods or field hunting. He was an avid vegetable gardener and took great pride in his garden each year.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Vitality Senior Living, Charter Senior Living, and Alive Hospice for their care during his final months.
A visitation with the family will be held at Mt. Olivet Funeral Home on Monday, August 26 from 4:00pm-7:00pm and Tuesday, August 27 from 9:00am -10:00am with the service being held at 10:00am. An interment with military honors will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery immediately following the service.
