

CROWELL-BAYER, Carol Lloyd, age 73. Carol was born on June 26, 1943 in Durham, North Carolina and passed away on December 6, 2016. Carol is survived by her husband, William T. Bayer of Nashville, TN; sister, Sylvia (Bob) Schulze of Monkton, MD; son, James Frank (Yvonne) Crowell, III and grandsons, Reid and Riley of Arrington, TN; daughter, Mary Margaret (Peter) Bourbeau and granddaughters, Cate and Clare of Nashville, TN. She is also survived by her husband’s children Rachel (Robert) Allensworth and grandsons, Gabriel and Liam of Nashville, TN and David (Lynda) Bayer and granddaughter Bethany of Nashville, TN. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Erskine Gattis Lloyd of Salisbury, North Carolina; Lillie Poteat Boyce of Durham, North Carolina; and the father of her children, James Frank Crowell, Jr. of Nashville, TN. Carol discovered a love for music at of early age and was first recognized for her talent at age six. Carol’s high school musical achievements culminated in her winning the Paderewski Medal, an honor awarded by the American College of Musicians and National Guild of Piano Teachers recognizing individuals who earned superior performance ratings by guild judges for 10 successive years. Carol graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Organ Performance and Public School Music and the highest scholastic average in Beta Zeta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, an international music fraternity. Carol moved to Nashville in 1966 and continued to share her gift of music as a teacher at Hillwood High School. Through the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, Carol lent her musical talents to Theatre Nashville and the Nashville Gridiron Show while continuing to play the organ for weddings and services at First Presbyterian Church. In the early 1980’s, Carol joined the music industry working for Monument Records. Carol also launched her real estate career around the same time. Carol had been a realtor with Fridrich & Clark Realty for the last 18 years and continually earned top sales accolades for her commitment and care to clients throughout her 37 years in the business. Carol was active in her children's alma maters of Oak Hill School, Harpeth Hall School and Montgomery Bell Academy. Carol was involved in numerous charities and organizations throughout her life including Fanny Battle Day Home, the Nashville Chamber of Commerce and the Sunny Day Program where she brought the gift of music as therapy to the elderly. Carol was an active member of West End United Methodist Church, a committed member of their Music Committee and devoted supporter of their Strengths Ministry. A private interment will take place at 12pm on Thursday, December 15th at Mount Olivet Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at West End United Methodist Church located at 2200 West End Avenue, Nashville on Saturday, January 7th at 2pm with the family receiving friends immediately prior from 12:30pm to 2pm in Reed Hall at the church.
