Born and raised in Donelson, Tennessee, Carole became a caregiver and best friend to her only sibling, her younger brother, Ritchie, following the sudden death of their father.
A graduate of Donelson High School and Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, Carole went on to spend more than 40 years as a nurse, turning her compassion and love for others into a lifelong calling.
While working at Baptist Hospital, Carole met David Farmer, Sr. in January 1973, who served there as a chaplain. They married on September 15, 1973 and welcomed their first child in May, 1975 and their second child in May, 1979. They became members of Glendale Baptist Church, where David served as a deacon and was a member of “Roosters,” a close-knit group of men.
Carole also found a deep connection to God in nature. She and her friends often felt closest to Him outdoors, especially at Radnor Lake, where she spent many cherished hours. Its beauty and quiet offered a place for reflection, friendship, and peace.
Carole’s wit was as unmistakable as her fiery red hair. With her signature “gives no ducks” attitude, she was never afraid to speak her mind. Those who knew her will remember her honesty, her smile, and the spirit that made her entirely herself.
She will be deeply missed by her family, her friends, and the many people she cared for—and who cared for her—throughout her life. Carole is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, David James Farmer, her only brother Ritchie Worrel (Doye) and her two children, Angi (Tim) and David, Jr. (Trisha) Grandchildren—Brittany and her partner, Denzell; Brylie and her partner, Jacob; J.T.; David Tyler; and Grayson—and three great-grandchildren: Kingston, Reiner, and Zhaiden. Her five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren will dearly miss their beloved Nana. Her love was a constant in their lives, and her absence leaves an ache that words cannot express.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents Eugene Worrell and Nettie May Jones Worrell.
A special thank you to Tiffany, who cared for Carole, in the most tender and kind way, in her final moments. Her compassion and empathy were reminiscent of how Carole treated others and her patients.
A Celebration of Life for Carole will be held at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home at 429 Donelson Pike, Nashville, TN 37214 on Sunday, October 25th. Visitation from 2-4pm with a service, officiated by Rev. Zack Helton, pastor of Glendale Baptist Church, immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital or Friends of Radnor Lake.
