After a century of faith, love, and devotion to family and friends, Carolyn Granger Brown entered her heavenly home on July 14, 2026, at the age of 100. A devoted woman of faith, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Carolyn will be remembered for her gracious spirit, enduring faith, and the kindness she extended to everyone who knew her.
Carolyn was born on October 20, 1925, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Noah Washington Granger and Retha Mae Clark Granger. On July 20, 1944, she married John Victor Brown in Little Rock, Arkansas. Together they shared nearly 60 years of marriage and faithfully served churches throughout their ministry. As a pastor's wife, Carolyn ministered alongside Victor with grace, compassion, and quiet strength, building lasting friendships.
In addition to her dedication to her family and church communities, Carolyn enjoyed a career marked by service to others. She worked in the Nursing Department at the University of Tennessee at Martin before later joining Service Merchandise, where she was known for her strong work ethic and friendly spirit. During the 1979 Billy Graham Crusade in Nashville, she served with the Billy Graham Crusade Association, an opportunity that reflected her deep faith and heart for ministry.
Carolyn found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved to travel and explore new places and could often be found with a good book in hand. She especially enjoyed playing Scrabble and Words With Friends, where her remarkable vocabulary and competitive spirit made her an opponent few could beat. Whether on a trip, gathered around the game table, or simply spending time with those she loved, Carolyn treasured life's everyday moments.
Above all, Carolyn's greatest pride was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love, wisdom, and encouragement shaped generations. Nothing brought her greater happiness than celebrating life's milestones and creating memories with those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Victor Brown; her son, John "Vic" Brown Jr.; her parents, Noah Washington Granger and Retha Mae Clark Granger; her brother, Curtis Granger; and her sister, Gloria Johnson.
She is lovingly survived by her children, Michael Granger Brown, Timothy Carroll Brown (Ann), and Susan Junkins (Mike); her daughter-in-law, Sue Brown; Mary Brown, mother of two of her grandchildren and a cherished member of the family; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her dear friends and the caring staff at Cloverland Park Senior Living.
Carolyn's life was a beautiful example of faith in action. Her legacy will live on in the family she cherished, the friends she embraced, and the countless lives she touched.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family rejoices in the promise that she is at home with her Lord and reunited with her loved ones.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, Tennessee. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will immediately follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee in honor of Carolyn's caring and generous spirit
