Charles William Engelhardt passed away on January 21st, 2026 in Nashville, TN at 72 years of age. He was born October 14th, 1953 in Cincinnati, Ohio and raised in West Palm Beach, FL by his mother Ellen and adoptive father Richard Engelhardt. He had a passion for music and songwriting which drew him to Nashville, where he would eventually meet his wife and raise his family.
Chuck taught himself guitar, recorded a few songs, and held various jobs while pursuing music and enjoying the Nashville scene. Then he had an encounter with God which completely changed his life. He became a new creation in Christ Jesus, joined a local church, participated in street ministry, and evangelized to the homeless. He used his gift of music to lead worship and, while leading worship at a Walk to Emmaus event, he met Norma Ueleke. It was evident right away that God had brought them together and they married July 18th, 1987. Soon after they welcomed a daughter, Abigail Magdalena, in 1989 and then a son, Aaron Richard, in 1995.
Around this time Chuck discovered a new passion for computers. He had always had a talent for taking things apart and figuring out how they worked, and he quickly learned how to build custom personal computers and repair them for friends and family. Through hard work and dedication, he studied for and acquired multiple Information Technology certifications which allowed him to turn his hobby into a successful career as an IT Administrator.
At church Chuck served faithfully on the production team running slides for services and then later as part of the English Language Learners ministry. In 2011 he gained another son, Kyle Thomas, when Abi and Kyle married. He also fulfilled one of his life’s goals when he and Aaron visited Israel and walked where Jesus walked. Then he became a Grandpa in 2015 when Josiah James was born and again in 2017 when Isla Dorothea was born. In 2020, Norma and Chuck slowed down along with the rest of the world during the pandemic. They enjoyed travels together along Route 66, visits with family and friends, and welcomed another grandchild, Juliet Nicole, in 2022.
Job 19:26 says, “Even after my mortal skin is destroyed by death, Yet from my immortal flesh I will see God.” For Chuck, nothing could be better than to leave his mortal body, plagued with Parkinson’s, in exchange for a healed immortal body where he is face to face with Jesus. In death he is reunited with those saints that have gone before and most especially, those loved ones who have preceded him in death, Norma, his wife of 37 years, their unborn children, Josiah, Mari, and Abraham, and their unborn grandchildren, Joseph and Charlie.
He is survived by his parents Ellen Engelhardt and Charles and Ursula Asbury, as well as his sisters and their families, Debbie Swann, Donna Delbene, Victoria Vullo, Kim Jackson, and other extended family. His immediate family includes his daughter Abigail Thomas, sons Aaron Engelhardt and Kyle Thomas, and three grandchildren, Josiah, Isla, and Juliet.
A Gathering of Family & Friends will take place on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Following will be a Celebration of Life at 1:00pm at Mt. Olivet Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1101 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, TN 37210.
