Charles (Chuck) Sheridan Wells III passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, with his family by his side. Chuck was preceded in death by his mother, John Elizabeth Colley Wells, his father, Charles Sheridan Wells, Jr., and his sister Sammie Wells. He is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Martha Mears Wells, and their son, Thomas Sheridan Wells. He is also survived by his brother, John Colley Wells, (Corrine), and his sisters, Tina Muzikowski (Bob) and Missy Tucker (Tuck).
Chuck was born November 22, 1956, in Nashville, Tennessee. He attended Lipscomb Elementary and Battle Ground Academy (’74). He then enrolled at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where he was a member of and served as President of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was fondly known as “Commander” by his fraternity brothers, with whom he maintained close relationships until his passing.
He graduated from UT Knoxville in 1979 with a degree in Real Estate Finance and returned to Nashville working in construction and real estate. He held both a General Contractor’s License and a Real Estate Broker License.
Chuck was active in the community, always willing to step in and help and/or lead. He served as President of the Bachelor’s Club and was a member of the Junior Chamber. In that time, he met Martha, and they married May 14, 1988. He gave of himself tirelessly in so many ways through involvement in his church, Boy Scout Troop 87, the Exchange Club, the Williamson County Lions Club (President) and numerous networking groups.
Chuck was passionate about gardening and through the Lions Club was instrumental in the development of the Sensory Garden for the Blind in Brentwood. The Lions International Foundation awarded him with the Melvin Jones Fellowship, the foundation’s highest honor, in recognition of his dedication and humanitarian services. He was revered in the scouting community and was recognized by the National Council of Boy Scouts of America for distinguished service in enabling over 80 Eagle Rank candidates with the completion of their community project necessary to achieve Eagle status.
He was always kind and giving. Many have referred to him as the “cat with nine lives.” No matter what struggles he faced, he always had a smile on his face and a positive outlook. Many will miss his quick wit and ability to make you laugh.
