

Clemmie Keeling Van Pelt , age 89, quietly passed Monday, May 27, 2013 while she was a patient at Bethany Nursing Home, Nashville, Tennessee. She is preceded in death by parents Edgar and Maude Keeling, husband, Daniel Van Pelt, brother, Leonard Keeling, sister, Margaret Cole and brother-in-law, Reece Cole.
The Keeling family lived for many years in Donelson where Clemmie went to elementary and high school. She later attended Trevecca Nazarene College where she graduated in 1950. Always ready for new challenges, Clemmie worked for a brief time in North Carolina, was a lab technician at Uplands Hospital in Pleasant Hill, Tennessee, taught school in the Davidson County school system, and later worked at Avco in Nashville where she met her husband, “Van.”
Van and Clemmie were long-time members of First Church of the Nazarene in Nashville and made their home in White House, Tennessee where Clemmie enjoyed her passion for gardening for many years. She remained in her home for a brief time after the death of her husband, but failing health prompted a move to Brighten Gardens in Nashville and later a move to Bethany Nursing Home.
Clemmie is survived by her sister, Mary Virginia Simpkins and nieces, Virginia Chilton, Joyce Stiehl and Anne Mintz, a number of great nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Clemmie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
