Born on April 12, 1951, Curtis was the beloved son of the late Sunny Levine Cohen and Joseph Leon Cohen. He graduated from Peabody Demonstration School and went on to become a brilliant and sought-after electrician, working independently for numerous companies across Nashville and beyond.
Curtis was also the proud owner and founder of Demented Tags, a utility tag-making business that he built with creativity and precision. His godson and business partner, William Titus “Teeter” Bryant, will continue operating the business, carrying on Curtis’s legacy of craftsmanship and integrity.
A man of deep faith and tradition, Curtis was a lifelong and devoted member of the Jewish community. He was actively involved in USY and AZA during his youth and remained a committed member of the West End Synagogue throughout his life. His connection to his faith, family, and community was unwavering.
In addition to his work as an electrician, Curtis was a skilled metal and steel sculptor, known for both his artistry and exacting standards. He loved animals dearly, and none more than his beloved rescue dog, Wicky — the true love of his life and loyal companion.
Curtis was known for speaking plainly and directly, with a razor-sharp wit that left a lasting impression. His quick humor and “Curtisisms” are fondly remembered by all who knew him. Integrity was his hallmark — in every job, every interaction, and every relationship. He was fiercely independent, remarkably resilient, and never one to dwell in self-pity, often saying with a shrug and a smile, “It could be worse.”
He is survived by his loving extended family, including the Isaacs and Levine families of Nashville, the Cohens of Louisville, Kentucky, and his godson Teeter Bryant, Teeter’s wife Crystal, their son Austin, and of course, his treasured Wicky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sunny and Joseph Cohen.
A celebration of Curtis’s life will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. at the West End Synagogue Cemetery.
In honoring Curtis, we remember a strong, intelligent, and deeply good human being whose impact will endure in the lives he touched and the work he so passionately created.
May his memory be a blessing.
