David served faithfully for 40 years in the Tennessee National Guard, retiring as a Master Sergeant. Throughout a lifetime of hard work and steady devotion, he met each responsibility with quiet bravery and resilience, offering selfless service that inspired those who had the privilege to know him. His wisdom was evident not only in what he accomplished, but in the steadfast way he lived and led.
On July 7, 1967, David married Mary Kay Bixler in Nashville, Tennessee. In the years that followed, “David” found his greatest joys in the simple, enduring gifts of life—fishing, riding motorcycles, and spending time with family—always devoted to those he loved and grateful for the moments shared.
David is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Bixler; daughters, Mary Stephens (David) and Peggy Ray (Michael); grandchildren, Savanna Stephens Habegger (Max) and Hannah Grace Ray; brother-in-law, Richard Price (Linda); and a host of friends.
A Gathering of Family & Friends will be held at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204, on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at the funeral home on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 2:30 pm.
A Committal Service will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204, on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 3:30 pm.
