

David Lawrence "Dave" Kuhlman was born on August 23, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents Edna Frances Steen Kuhlman and Lawrence William Kuhlman, and his twin brother John William "Bill" Kuhlman.
David moved to Nashville with his family where he attended Christ the King School and Father Ryan High School. He went on to attend the University of Tennessee, earning a degree in civil engineering, and later received his master's degree in civil engineering from Vanderbilt University. Following his education, David began his career in Memphis, TN. He worked for the U.S. Public Health Service where his work included helping design portions of Interstate 40, which today connects Memphis and Nashville. He continued a long and accomplished career with the engineering firms Henshaw, Honeycutt, and Lewis; Lewis and Kuhlman; and Kuhman and Associates. He established his own firm, Water Management Services, where he worked until his retirement.
David's faith and community were an important part of his life. He was a devoted and active member of Christ the King Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and lector as well as Vice President and President of the Parish Council. He participated in the Cursillo group, Men's Club, and founded the parish grass cutting committee. His dedication to the Christ the King community extended to the school where he generously gave of his time coaching cross country, basketball, and baseball.
David was also an avid runner and completed the St. Louis and Chicago marathons. He loved to travel, being especially fond of road trips. He was a talented artist as well, with drawings and illustrations being his specialty.
David is survived by his wife of 24 years, Diana Kouns Kuhlman; his brother Jim Kuhlman, his sons David Lawrence Kuhlman, Jr. and John Timothy Kuhlman; his daughters Angela Kuhlman Thomas and Catherine Kuhlman Currie (Philip); and his five grandchildren who knew him lovingly as "Grandpop": Ashley Thomas, Leanna Thomas, Joshua Kuhlman, William Currie, and Bay Currie.
David will be remembered for his devotion to service, his faith, his profession, and the Christ the King community that was such an important part of his life.
Visitation will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., with the Funeral Mass following at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held at the church immediately following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Room In The Inn or to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Nashville.
