David Wright LaGrone, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on February 5, 2026, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on December 8, 1977, in Nashville to Arthur Welling LaGrone, Jr. and Salli Shropshire LaGrone.
Nashville was always home for Wright. He grew up there, spent summers with family in Greenville, South Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia, and returned to Nashville after attending the Savannah College of Art and Design. It was in Nashville where he built his life and found his community.
Wright was a multimedia artist, musician, and producer. He worked across photography, video, audio, and digital image creation, and showed his work in the US and Europe. He was self-taught at his core. As a teenager he picked up the guitar and simply figured it out. His artistic philosophy was rooted in curiosity, a drive to discover, to take things apart, and to reassemble them in ways that were entirely his own.
Wright was passionate about Nashville's experimental electronic music community and loved being part of it. He founded and ran d/a73 imprint, a small, community-oriented DIY recording label that released avant-garde audio recordings from local and international artists. He was a member of the Nashville Electronic Music and Synthesizers (NEMS) group and released music through Nashville's Banana Tapes label. Through d/a73 he organized benefit compilations supporting organizations like The Trevor Project, because the work was never just about the music.
Wright lived with bipolar disorder and other mental health challenges his whole life. He didn't hide it, but he didn't let it become the whole story either. He cared about social justice and put that into action, directing proceeds from his music to organizations including Planned Parenthood. Recently, he volunteered at All Sorts in Madison, Tennessee and was working toward certification as a peer counselor, something that came from a genuine desire to help people going through what he understood firsthand.
Wright was endlessly curious. He loved finding new topics to dig into and share with friends and family, whether it was something he was passionate about or something you brought to the table. He was warm, generous with his time, and always looking out for the people around him. He was a lifelong animal lover, from his childhood Labrador, Aggie, to the guinea pigs and rabbit he cared for in his Nashville apartment.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Salli Shropshire LaGrone (2011), and his father, Arthur Welling LaGrone, Jr. (2011). He is survived by his brother, Arthur Welling LaGrone III (Heather) of Natick, Massachusetts; his former wife and dear friend, Ginger Eades; his nieces, Miranda LaGrone and Zara LaGrone; and his nephew, Sam LaGrone.
Wright's guinea pigs and rabbit have found new loving homes, and he would be happy about that.
A celebration of life will be held in Nashville in the spring of 2026. Details will be shared at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The ALLSORTS Lobby in Madison, Tennessee in Wright's memory at www.theallsortslobby.org.
