
SANDERS, Jr. David Page passed away October 10, 2010, born February 4, 1920; son of David Page and Ida Marie Roberts Sanders, and preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Frank Hart Sanders and Blythe Bond Sanders. Mr. Sanders, a member of the Bomber Group and Sons of the American Revolution, served in the Army Air Corp, a pilot in the 7th Troop Carrier Command, stationed on Saipan but flew to Okinawa, Guam, Pelilue, and was a part of the liberation of the Philippines and has credit on his discharge for services to Iwo Jima. He was written up in the Nashville Tennessean during the Second World War for volunteering to carry emergency food though a violent storm to marine assault troops in the Battle of Palau. Thirteen planes loaded with K-rations flew as far as the Marianas, only five planes were able to continue on to Pelilue, Lt. Sanders was one who continued on. Mr. Sanders worked for his dad at Bond-Sanders Paper Co. until the business was sold. He then worked as a quality engineer for the United States Dept. of Defense. Mr. Sanders was a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Kathryn, son David Page (Carolyn) Sanders III; daughter Susan (John) Mathews; grandsons David Page Sanders IV, John Christopher (Beth) Mathews, Page Sanders Mathews, William Jackson Mathews; brothers John Robert Sanders and Edwin B. R. Sanders. Graveside services with Military Honors will be 11:00 Wednesday, October 13, 2010 in Woodlawn Memorial Park with Dr. Sam Boyd and Rev. Wyndell Jones officiating. Pallbearers will be Charles Holt, John Duscoe, Mark McLemore, Earl Rosser, Don Vought, Glen Hale, and Fred Conrad.
