Born on November 7, 1947, to Sadie and Bernice Wright, DC lived in Nashville, Tennessee, with his siblings Jim (Jeannette), Jackie (Joe), Martha (Fred) and Jeanie (John). He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1967 and served as a petty officer radioman in Vietnam. DC received the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon and a letter from President Nixon for his bravery, perseverance, consistency, and devotion in the performance of his duties as the radioman on the USS Whitfield County. DC went on to serve as the radioman on the USS Francis River, nicknamed the “Franny Maru,” where he spent 776 days on the gunline providing support for the US and Allied Forces in Southeast Asia. Following the war, he served in the Naval Reserve until his honorable discharge in 1973.
After he returned from Vietnam, DC worked for TVA, where he was employed until his retirement. He raised his family in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He loved the Atlanta Braves and spending time with his son.
DC was a strong fighter, but he is now sailing on a journey to shores that we cannot see.
